The Memoir of the King by Mirza Muhammad Hashim Asif is a book on the general history of Iran that is most similar to the author's other work, Rustam al-Tawarikh, in its approach to history. Both contain first-hand accounts and stories that are not found in other sources and are told from the author's own perspective. Although this work, like the famous Rustam al-Tawarikh, contains some satire, the author's focus is more on politics, the principles of governance, and the management of affairs. Another concern of the author, which is important for the history of science in contemporary Iran, is the attempt to reach an understanding of human history in the light of new scientific and maritime findings.

تَذکِرة الملوک اثر میرزا محمّدهاشم آصف، کتابی است در تاریخ عمومی ایران که در نوع نگاه به تاریخ، بیشترین شباهت را به رستم التواریخ، اثر دیگر نویسنده دارد. هر دو دارای روایت‌های دست اول و داستان‌هایی هستند که در منابع دیگر مانند آنها یافت نمی‌شود و از زاویۀ دید خاص نویسنده بیان می‌شوند. با اینکه در این نوشته هم مانند کتاب مشهور رستم التواریخ نکاتی به طنز گفته می‌شود، اما نگاه نویسنده بیشتر بر سیاست‌ورزی، اصول حکمرانی و تدبیر امور است.دغدغۀ دیگر نویسنده، که برای تاریخ علم در ایران معاصر اهمیت دارد کوشش برای رسیدن به فهمی از تاریخ بشر در پرتو یافته‌های تازۀ علمی و دریانوردی است.
