The book Searching for Liberation in the Peaks is an innovative attempt to understand one of the seemingly simple but deeply complex human actions, namely, mountaineering, from a sociological perspective. Focusing on the 1930s to 1950s, this work reinterprets the experience of mountaineering in the historical and political context of Iran after the 1953 coup, and shows how mountains and climbing became a space for experiencing freedom, resistance, and collective reconstruction. Using written sources, field interviews, and participation in mountaineering programs, the authors have explored hidden layers of this phenomenon and have established a meaningful connection between mountains, prison, and sociological theories, especially the theory of “alienation.” Continuing the research on "Prison Commune," this book traces the social roots of the resilience and humanity of political prisoners in mountaineering programs before and after their arrest, and shows through a structural-historical analysis how mountaineering has been a platform for the formation of will, consciousness, and collectivism. Seeking Liberation in the Peaks is not just a narrative of the history of mountaineering, but an attempt to understand it as part of social and political actions in the context of society.
