Between the October Revolution and the signing of the Stalin-Hitler Non-Aggression Pact, many writers, both in America and Europe, became obsessed with communism. These intellectuals were not at all like ordinary converts and in fact, they were considered the most unusual communists in the world. They had the highest talents and abilities to understand the spirit of their time and their understanding of the hopes and disappointments of that era was more accurate than others. Their strong and sometimes unorthodox faith in communism was not similar to the feelings of millions of people who saw the Soviet government as a supporter of the workers. In this book, six intellectuals tell the story of becoming a communist and their return from it. In the beginning, they looked at communism from a distance and humbly devoted their talents to its realization. The indifferences of the professional revolutionaries and the taunts of the opponents did not discourage them until they finally realized the difference and contradiction between their image of the "Kingdom of God" and the reality of the communist regime. What these six writers, who have very different personalities, have in common is that they all chose communism after agonizing internal conflicts; Because they lost their faith in democracy and reached the point where they were willing to sacrifice "bourgeois freedoms" in the fight against fascism. This tendency towards communism was rooted in frustration and disappointment with Western values.
