This book examines one of the important issues of philosophy and logic, that is, the problem of induction. The author believes that nowadays the problems that Hume raised about induction are no longer relevant and instead a new mystery has been raised in this field. He raised the question, "What distinguishes verifiable hypotheses from unverifiable hypotheses?" He has linked the problem of induction with the theory of "confirmation". Some of the most important topics of the book are: the old problem of induction, verification theory, the new puzzle of induction and its solution.

کتاب حاضر به بررسی یکی از موضوع های مهم فلسفه و منطق، یعنی مسأله استقراء میپردازد. نویسنده معتقد است امروزه دیگر اشکالی که هیوم درباره استقراء مطرح کرده موضوعیت چندانی ندارد و در عوض معمایی جدید در این زمینه مطرح شده است. او با طرح این سوال که «چه چیزی فرضیه های تأییدپذیر را از فرضیه های تأیید ناپذیر متمایز میسازد؟» مسأله استقراء را با تئوری «تأیید» پیوند زده است. برخی از مهمترین مباحث کتاب عبارت است از:‌ مسأله قدیمی استقراء، نظریه تأیید، معمای جدید استقراء و راه حل آن.
