Parabolă a unui secol care a născut două regimuri opresive, povestea unui om arestat fără a fi vinovat, persecutat şi, pînă la urmă, executat „ca un cîine”, romanul neterminat al lui Kafka a ajuns să reprezinte soarta nenumăratelor victime ale nedreptăţii politice şi ale injustiţiei legii.

Ei bine, v‑aţi ostenit degeaba: sau v‑aţi amuzat văzînd cum cineva aştepta de la voi să apăraţi nevinovăţia, sau (dă‑mi drumul, că te pocnesc! îi strigă K. unui bătrîn tremurător care se vîrîse prea mult în el) aţi învăţat realmente ceva.
