این کتاب به بررسی ساختار قشربندی اجتماعی در استان بلوچستان ایران از دوره قاجاریه تا پس از انقلاب اسلامی ۱۳۵۷ می‌پردازد. نویسنده، که خود از بازماندگان خوانین منطقه است، با نگاهی جامعه‌شناختی و تاریخی، سه دورهٔ قاجاریه، پهلوی و پس از انقلاب را تحلیل کرده و به نقش اقشار فرادست و فرودست، استمرار حاشیه‌بودگی، و انسداد اجتماعی در بلوچستان پرداخته است. اثر حاضر حاصل چهار سال پژوهش میدانی و هشت سال درگیری ذهنی نویسنده است.
