The Night of the Heart is the narration of the night that Christian Boben spent in the historical city of Genk in a room overlooking the monastery of Saint-Foy, which dates back to the 11th century. In this evening, he will have a conversation with Pierre Soulage, a famous French painter who made and executed the stained glass windows of this monastery. In this imaginary conversation with Soulage, Boben brings up his usual themes, that is, childhood, love, light, loneliness, and light-hearted compassion for death and life, but since Shab Del is one of the last works of this late author, these themes are more mature and are expressed more poetically.

شب دل روایت شبی است که کریستیان بوبن در شهر تاریخی گنک گذرانده است در اتاقی مشرف به صومعه ی سنت فوآ که قدمت آن به قرن یازدهم میلادی باز میگردد. او در این شب به واگویه ای با پییر سولاژ نقاش سرشناس فرانسوی میپردازد که ساخت و اجرای ویترای های این صومعه را انجام داده است. بوبن در این مکالمه ی خیالی با سولاژ همان مضامین همیشگی اش را پیش می گیرد و مطرح میسازد یعنی ،کودکی عشق نور تنهایی، شفقت سبکبالی مرگ و زندگی اما از آنجا که شب دل جزو آخرین آثار این نویسنده ی فقید است این مضامین پخته تر و شاعرانه تر بیان شده اند.
