معمولاً اصطلاحات کمدین و آکتور و آرتیست را بدون فرق بکار می برند و در نظر مردم این کلمات مترادف هم هستند و حال آن که فرق آنها در هنر تآثر بسیار است. اکثر فقط بعضی رلها را میتواند بازی کند کمدین باید بتواند تمام رل ها را بازی کند و آرتیست باید مخترع باشد و يك پدیده هنری بوجود آورد. خیلی از آکتورها ثابت نموده اند که ممکن است با ذوق و هوش سرشار پس از آن که مدتی در تاترهای درجه ۲ و عمومی کار کردند روی سنهای كلاسیك و تآترهای درجه يك شرکت کنند و بعکس بسیار دیده شده است که عده زیادی از اکترها که لیاقت تآترهای درجه يك را نداشته اند در تآترهای درجه دو رفته اند و در آنجا معروفیت و شهرت بدست
آورده اند.
کمدین کسی است که از بس بر جای دیگران نشسته جای خود را فراموش کرده او عشقها و علاقه هایی را که ندارد باید بتواند بخوبی نشان بدهد. وقتی که طبیعت به يك كمدين ذوق و نبوغ هنری داده است او میتواند در چند سبك بسر حد کمال برسد. ضرب المثلی هست که میگویند تمام کمدینها در تآتر نیستند حافظه از لحاظ ،تحصیل یا حاد است یا راکد از لحاظ ،حفظ یا بادوام است یا بی دوام از لحاظ ذکر یا تند است یا کند بنابراین حافظه خوب آن است که کیفیات را به سهولت تحصیل کند، آنها را مدت مدیدی حفظ نماید و به سرعت بخاطر بیاورد. البته اجتماع شرایط سه گانه بسیار نادر است.
