Revolution in South America is a work related to Augusto Boal's youth and before the theory of the theater known as "The Oppressed". However, in this play, the roots of Boal's thought can be traced to what he would later call the theater of the oppressed. A play with ironic nettles (sarcasm) that chooses the main identity of Brazilian culture, that is football, as the structure of the play. In an ironic combination, he calls his work "documentary theater in two halves"... The revolution in South America is the story of a citizen named Jose. A person from the working class who ends up unemployed and has no end but a laughable death.

انقلاب در آمریکای جنوبی اثری مربوط به دوره‌ی جوانی آگوستو بوال و پیش از نظریه‌مند شدنِ تئاترِ موسوم به «ستمدیدگان» است. هرچند در این نمایشنامه می‌توان بعینه ریشه‌های اندیشگی بوال را در آنچه او بعدها تئاتر ستمدیدگان خواهد نامید ردگیری کرد. نمایشنامه‌ای با گزنه‌های آیرونیک (کنایی) که هویت اصلی فرهنگ برزیل، یعنی فوتبال، را به‌عنوان ساختار نمایشنامه انتخاب می‌کند. او در ترکیبی کنایی اثر خود را «تئاتر مستند در دو نیمه» می‌نامد.... انقلاب در آمریکای جنوبی داستان شهروندی به نام ژوزه است. فردی از طبقه‌ی کارگر که دست بر قضا بی‌کار می‌شود و سرانجامی جز مرگ خنده‌آور ندارد.
