“The Diaries of Jalal Al-e Ahmad – Volume II” is a collection of personal, social, and cultural writings by Jalal Al-e Ahmad, one of the most influential Iranian writers and intellectuals of the contemporary era. The second volume covers his diary entries from 9 December 1958 to 15 December 1960. Through these writings, Al-e Ahmad’s personality and character become clearly visible, revealing his attitudes, concerns, and intellectual outlook.

In these diaries, Al-e Ahmad also documents the intellectual atmosphere of Iran during the 1960s and reflects on the relationships and activities of cultural and artistic figures of his time. For this reason, the collection can be considered an important historical document of the cultural and literary life of that period.

Although many of the entries contain critical reflections on the existing cultural conditions, Al-e Ahmad also regarded his diaries as a personal refuge for expressing thoughts and words that needed to be spoken. Some sections from this period of his life had previously been published as newspaper columns in Ettela’at.

Before his death, Al-e Ahmad emphasized that his remaining works, including his diaries, should be published with the approval and supervision of his family and heirs.

Jalal Al-e Ahmad (1923–1969) was an Iranian writer, translator, literary critic, and intellectual whose works played a significant role in the literary and intellectual movements of twentieth-century Iran. His writings remain an important source for understanding the cultural debates and intellectual currents of modern Iranian history.
