This book argues that Iran’s central problem is not the form of government—monarchy or republic—but the absence of durable institutions, accountable governance, and a strong civil society. Drawing on comparative political economy, historical experience, and contemporary evidence from Iran and other countries, it shows how weak institutions, rentier structures, fragmented opposition, and a fragile political culture have repeatedly undermined reform and democratic transition. By shifting the debate from symbolic labels of political systems such as monarchy or republic to the practical architecture of power, this book offers a realistic framework for building a stable, free, and inclusive Iran after the Islamic Republic.
