Central Asia is a name that was coined and used for a part of the Transcaucasian region from the second half of the 19th century onwards, and mainly includes the five countries of Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Turkmenistan. These five countries, which joined the international community in the early 1990s following the collapse of the Soviet Union, became the scene of competition between global and regional powers due to their political history and new context. Meanwhile, Iran, with its ancient cultural and civilizational ties on the one hand and its regional neighborhood on the other, saw new opportunities ahead of it. Examining the policies of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the face of new conditions, the opportunities and threats arising from this situation, and becoming more familiar with the geography, culture, politics and economy of the region are among the issues addressed in this book. This book contains articles that were presented two decades ago at the International Conference on Iran and Central Asia at the University of Tehran; Regardless of the scientific content, that rereading of the book's articles expresses the path that has been taken over the past two decades or indicates the opportunities that have been missed and the mistakes that have been made in the political and governance arena.
