The book is a narrative of the memoirs of Tudeh Party officers by one of the most important Iranian novelists, depicting lesser-known aspects of the coup of 11 August. Ali Mohammad Afghani begins the story by focusing on one of his old friends and comrades, Ismail Mohaqiq Davani, an army captain who was shot along with a group on the morning of 11 August 1955. The book then reflects on the heated political atmosphere in Iran on the eve of the coup of 11 August and describes the bloody consequences of this event.

کتاب پیش رو روایتی است از خاطرات افسران حزب توده به قلم یکی از رمان‌نویسان مهم ایرانی که نکاتی کمتر بیان‌شده را از کودتای 28 مرداد تصویر می‌کند. علی‌محمد افغانی داستان را با محوریت یکی از دوستان و هم‌رزمان قدیمی‌اش اسماعیل محقق دوانی آغاز می‌کند، یک سروان ارتش که در پگاه 26 مرداد 1334 به‌همراه یک گروه تیرباران شد. در ادامه کتاب فضای ملتهب سیاسی ایران در آستانه‌ی کودتای 28 مرداد را منعکس می‌کند و پیامدهای خونین این واقعه را شرح می‌دهد.
