Love for Iran, books, and research on Iranology and nature tourism were the fields that brought Manouchehr Sotoudeh and Iraj Afshar together and created a strong and lasting friendship between them. Their deep attachment to learning, gaining experience, and completing their studies led to numerous trips to all corners of Iran and the world, and in this way, whenever they were apart, they kept in touch by writing letters. The present book is a collection of letters that have survived from these men of culture and literature to each other. The correspondence between the two began in the early thirties and continued almost until the end of their lives. The main benefit of this book is, first and foremost, the clear picture it provides of the heart of the cultural situation and issues in Iran. Through these letters, we also learn about many of the personal personalities and cultural exchanges of Sotoudeh, Afshar, and some of their friends, and all of this can be useful for completing the history of Iranology.

عشق به ایران، کتاب و تحقیقات ایران‌شناسی و طبیعت‌گردی، رشته‌هایی بود که منوچهر ستوده و ایرج افشار را به هم پیوند داد و دوستی استوار و دیرپایی میانشان پدید آورد. دلبستگی عمیق ایشان به آموختن و تجربه‌اندوزی و تکمیل مطالعات، موجبات سفرهایی متعدد به گوشه‌وکنار ایران و جهان را برایشان فراهم کرد و از همین رهگذر هرگاه از یکدیگر دور افتادند با نوشتن نامه از حال هم باخبر شدند. کتاب حاضر مجموعه‌ی نامه‌هایی است که از این مردان فرهنگ و ادب به یکدیگر باقی مانده است. باب نامه‌نگاری میان این دو از آغاز دهه‌ی سی مفتوح بود و تقریبا تا اواخر ایام عمرشان ادامه داشت. فایده‌ی اصلی این کتاب در درجه‌ی اول تصویری روشن است که از قلب اوضاع و مسائل فرهنگی ایران به دست می‌دهد. نیز از خلال این نامه‌ها به بسیاری از خلقیات شخصی و مراودات فرهنگی ستوده و افشار و عده‌ای از دوستان ایشان پی می‌بریم و این‌ها همه برای تکمیل تاریخ ایران‌شناسی سودمند تواند بود.
