The whys and wherefores of Iran's economic transformations over the past 50 years are some of the questions and concerns of many activists, elites, planners, and economic and political managers. The question is, because many still do not know exactly what has happened, the country's economy has reached its current unpleasant conditions over the past 50 years. What has happened is that, from aspiring to become the Japan of the Middle East, it is now inevitably competing with Saudi Arabia and the Emirates, and not only has Japan not become it, but Korea has also surpassed it. The question is also because it is not clear in which economic sphere and how Iranians will live in the near and distant future. In response to this question, of course, many books, speeches, (articles) have been written by others so far. But for several reasons, these writings have rarely been able to provide a sufficient answer, or at least I think so. The obsolescence of data, the obsolescence of paradigms and assumptions of research and analysis, the directive or propaganda nature of the writing, and the like, could be part of the reason for this failure. In search of an answer to these questions and concerns, and at least for my own sake, I have begun writing this book so that perhaps I can quench a little of the thirst I would like to know how and why these changes have occurred, and perhaps also quench the thirst of others in this field. Some research on the country's economic history in the past two centuries, official statistics of the country such as reports from the Statistics Center or the Central Bank, and other official institutions of the country such as the reports of the Statistics Center or the Central Bank and other official institutions in the past 50 years, and some international statistics, as well as a history of more than 40 years of management and consulting in economic production enterprises, have been my inspiration for writing this book. By organizing this information in 160 tables, I have tried to present to the reader the progress of the achievements and missed opportunities of the past 50 years from my perspective, and to display the economic opportunities and threats facing the country. If I have succeeded even to the extent of a pinhead in this task, I will be very happy, and I look forward to further guidance from the readers of the book.
