Cassandra, a schoolteacher, comes out of a party in the pouring rain and decides to take a dangerous shortcut through a dark forest to get home against her husband's advice. In the middle of the road, he sees a car stopped in the middle of the road with a woman behind the wheel. Cassandra stops, but when she sees that the woman does not come out, she continues on her way. Sometime later, he finds out that the woman was murdered and was one of Cassandra's acquaintances. He feels extremely guilty for not doing anything for that woman and is also worried about his sanity. His mother has recently gone through the early stages of dementia and has forgotten important things like signing contracts and inviting guests. Now Cassandra is worried that her mother's illness is waiting for her. The tension rises when Cassandra's fear of her mental state increases, and mysterious phone calls that may be from the killer add to the suspense of the story.

کاساندرا که معلم مدرسه است، در بارانی شدید از مهمانی بیرون می آید و تصمیم می گیرد بر خلاف توصیه ی همسرش برای رسیدن به خانه از میانبری خطرناک در میان جنگلی تاریک عبور کند. او در میانه ی راه، ماشینی را می بیند که در وسط جاده متوقف شده و زنی پشت فرمان آن است. کساندرا می ایستد ولی وقتی می بیند که زن بیرون نمی آید، به راهش ادامه می دهد. مدتی بعد، او متوجه می شود که آن زن، به قتل رسیده بوده و یکی از آشنایان کساندرا بوده است. او از این که برای آن زن کاری نکرده، به شدت احساس گناه می کند و علاوه بر این، درباره ی سلامت عقل خود نیز نگران است. مادرش اخیراً مراحل اولیه ی زوال عقل را از سر گذرانده و چیزهای مهمی مثل امضا کردن قرارداد و دعوت از مهمانان را فراموش کرده است. حالا کساندرا نگران است که مبادا بیماری مادرش، در انتظار او باشد. تنش، زمانی اوج می گیرد که ترس کساندرا از وضعیت روانی اش بیش تر می شود و تماس های تلفنی مرموزی که ممکن است از طرف قاتل باشند، بر تعلیق داستان می افزایند.
