Namād'pardāzī-yi Āvāyī az Manẓar-i Zabān Shināsī-yi Shinākhtī: Persiska (Farsi) 1402

In the mainstream of linguistics, which begins with Ferdinand de Saussure, the relationship between the sounds of words and their meanings is purely contractual. The linguistic phenomenon of "phonetic symbolism" is a direct and non-contractual connection between the sound and the meaning of the word. For more than a hundred years, this phenomenon has been under the research of linguists and its various aspects have been investigated. However poets and writers have used this interesting linguistic phenomenon in their literary works since long before that. The current book, in four chapters, discusses the relationship between the word and its meaning, reviews the history of various studies on phonetic symbolization in detail, examines and criticizes the theories proposed to explain this phenomenon, and finally tries to, for the first time, based on the theory of metaphor A concept in cognitive linguistics to explain why this phenomenon occurs.
