The Legend of Sleepy Hollow is a short story by Washington Irving. It was first published in 1820 and is set in the Dutch settlement of Tarry Town, New York in a secluded glen called Sleepy Hollow. The story is about a schoolmaster named Ichabod Crane who competes with another man for the hand of Katrina Van Tassel.
