Encyclopaedia of the World of Islam is a major scholarly reference work devoted to the history, culture, and civilization of the Islamic world. Designed to provide documented and systematically organized information, the encyclopedia covers a wide range of subjects, including history, geography, religion, culture, civilization, notable figures, regions, and institutions of the Muslim world. Its entries are written by specialists and scholars in their respective fields.

Volume One contains entries beginning with the Persian letter “B”, extending through Baqi Nahavandi. Some of the material included in this volume had previously been published between 1990 and 1994 in separate fascicles. The earlier entries were prepared under the joint supervision of Seyyed Mostafa Mirsalim, Nasrollah Pourjavady, and Ahmad Taheri Iraqi.

In addition to subjects directly related to Islam and Muslim-majority countries, the encyclopedia also addresses the history and culture of Iran, Islamic civilization, and the intellectual and cultural heritage of Muslim societies. It serves as a substantial reference source for scholars, students, and readers engaged in Islamic and Iranian studies.

This illustrated volume, which includes some color images, was published by the Encyclopaedia Islamica Foundation. The edition described here is the third edition, published in 2007.
