Gorīz-e nāgozīr: sī revāyat-e gorīz az Jomhūrī-ye Eslāmī-ye Īrān (do jeldī) Persiska (Farsi) 2008

Goriz-e Nāgozir (Inevitable Escape) is a two-volume work comprising thirty personal narratives of escape and forced migration from Iran during the 1980s. It was published by Nashr-e Noghteh in Paris. The book was compiled with the aim of documenting the causes, processes, and consequences of the large-scale exodus from Iran between 1981 and 1986, a period during which many political and social activists, leftist and democratic figures, intellectuals, writers, artists, and members of religious minorities were compelled to leave the country.

In this collection, thirty women and men from diverse social backgrounds and political, intellectual, and religious orientations recount their personal experiences of leaving Iran, crossing its borders, and living in exile. Beyond conveying individual lived experiences, these narratives offer a broader picture of Iran’s political, social, and cultural conditions from the 1979 Revolution to the mid-1980s, and include references to the activities of institutions and associations such as the Bar Association, the Independent Teachers’ Association, and labor unions.

The primary objective of the book is to transmit the experience of a generation and to prevent the erasure of a significant chapter of Iran’s contemporary social and political history—one that has been insufficiently and often one-sidedly represented in official domestic sources. Acknowledging the limitations of their work, the editors present Goriz-e Nāgozir not as a comprehensive account, but as a documented and candid effort to understand the causes and consequences of exile in 1980s Iran.
