Dīvān-i ash‘ār-i ‘Aṭṭār-i Nīshābūrī Persiska (Farsi) 2025

The Dīvān of ʿAṭṭār of Nishapur is a collection of the passionate and mystical poetry of Shaykh Farīd al-Dīn ʿAṭṭār of Nishapur, consisting of his ghazals, qasidas, and a set of supplementary poems—including additional ghazals, qasidas, and tarkīb-bands—that in later manuscript traditions came to be attributed to him. Numerous manuscripts of the Dīvān survive, yet their reliability cannot always be confirmed, since a portion of the poems found in these copies do not in fact belong to ʿAṭṭār.

The edition now available to readers is the result of over two decades of scholarly research, prepared on the basis of seven early and authoritative manuscripts. It may therefore be regarded as one of the most reliable and academically sound versions of the Dīvān, published under the title “Critical Text Based on Early Manuscripts.”

This critical edition—edited by Mehdi Madāyenī and Mehrān Afshārī under the supervision of Alireza Emami—grades the manuscripts according to their textual value and antiquity, since later copies tend to contain a greater number of interpolated or spurious verses. In this edition, the materials were first transcribed and collated by Madāyenī and Afshārī, then arranged alphabetically according to the final rhyme letter. After careful comparison of the manuscripts, textual variants were recorded in the footnotes beneath each poem. At the top of every poem, the number of the ghazal or qasida appears on the right, and on the left the sigla of the manuscripts, listed in order of priority.
