Dr. Pouyan, appointed as an assistant professor in the Faculty of Social Sciences as the successor to his father, finds himself under intense pressure from his department chair to preserve his academic standing by producing a commissioned article on the condition of contemporary society.

At the same time, as he reads his father's memoirs and encounters horrifying passages describing the sexual assault of a young girl, he becomes deeply disillusioned not only with his father but also with the ideals and aspirations he once represented. The discovery triggers a profound psychological and emotional collapse.

When the department chair renews his demands, Dr. Pouyan suddenly loses control. In an eruption of rage, he seizes the man by the throat like a wolf and kills him.

From this shocking event, the novel unfolds through a complex exploration of political, cultural, and social questions concerning both society and the wider world. By employing fragmented chronology and shifting spaces, the author examines the structures of contemporary human existence, building bridges from individual experience to family and society at large.

Ultimately, the novel turns its gaze toward the condition of humanity itself, presenting a bleak critique of human rights as they have been shaped by the primacy of self-interest, Machiavellian thinking, and what the narrative portrays as the flawed foundations of human nature.
