Sufi Gholam Nabi Ashghari was born in 1271 in the city of Kabul. He had not yet passed the first years of his childhood when he lost his father, mother, and brother. He wrote his first poem in 1293 under the pseudonym Eshghari. Many of his poems were published in the newspapers of that time. In 1335, he chose the job of bookbinding and his bookbinding shop was a hangout for many people of poetry and music. Finally, Sufi Eshgari died in Kabul on the 9th of Cancer 1358 at the age of eighty-seven and was buried in the cemetery of Shahada Salehin.

صوفی غلام نبی عشقری در سال ۱۲۷۱ خورشیدی در شهر کابل به دنیا آمد. او هنوز نخستین سال های کودکی را سپری نکرده بود که پدر، مادر و برادرش را از دست داد. او در سال ۱۲۹۳ خورشیدی نخستین شعرش را با تخلص عشقری سرود. بسیاری از شعرهای او در روزنامه های آن زمان به چاپ می رسید. او در سال ۱۳۳۵ شغل صحافی را برگزید و دکان صحافیاش پاتوق بسیاری از اهالی شعر و موسیقی بود. سرانجام در ۹ سرطان ۱۳۵۸ خورشیدی صوفی عشقری به عمر هشتاد و هفت سالگی در کابل درگذشت و در قبرستان شهدای صالحین به خاک سپرده شد.
