Although the main topic of Tajik history is the description and explanation of the series of changes and events that led to the establishment of a separate political unit called Tajikistan in a period of more or less one hundred years from the domination of the Russians over Central Asia until the establishment of the Soviet system in that system, but such a topic is not possible without presenting a report of the developments in Central Asia in general and then the history of the Persian-speaking people of this area in the period under discussion, and this is exactly the method used in this book.

اگرچه موضوع اصلی تاریخ تاجیکان ورارود توصیف و توضیح رشته تحوّلات و رخدادهایی است که در یک دورهٔ کم وبیش یک صدساله از چیرگی روس ها بر آسیای میانه تا استقرار نظام شوروی در آن سامان به تأسیس واحد سیاسی مجزّایی به نام تاجیکستان منتهی شد، امّا یک چنین موضوعی بدون ارائهٔ گزارشی از تحوّلات آسیای میانه به طور کلّی و آنگاه سرگذشت مردمان فارسی زبان این حوزه در دورهٔ مورد بحث، میسّر نیست و این دقیقا همان روشی است که در این کتاب به کار گرفته شده است.
