The aim of this guidebook, which is gathered, edited and translated from various sources, is to give clues between English script and pronunciation. The book has two chapters and a double-header glossary. The first chapter criticises English essential concepts and phonetics such as vowel and consonant, speech sounds, voiced and voiceless and other English phonetic processes such as coarticulation and others. One part of this chapter has an expert description of international alphabet transcription and the second part shows the differences between Britain, American and Australian pronunciations. The second chapter, which is in English alphabetic order, by one by introduces the letters and English digraphs and describes the general relation ruled on script and pronunciation with their comprehensive details. Where that different syllables of a word shows the phonetic process or has an especial importance, pronunciation syllabification is shown with spacing.

هدف اين راهنما كه از منابع گوناگون گردآوري، ترجمه و تدوين شده است ارائه ي راه كارهايي است كه رابطه ي ميان خط و تلفظ انگليسي را نشان دهد. كتاب از دو بخش و يك واژه نامه ي دو سويه تشكيل شده است. بخش نخست به بررسي مفاهيم بنيادي و آواشناسي انگليسي همچون واكه و همخوان، آواهاي گفتار، واك دار و بي واك و نيز برخي فرايندهاي آواشناختي انگليسي همچون توليد همزمان و غيره مي پردازد. يك فصل از اين بخش به توصيف كارشناسانه ي الفباي آوانگار بين المللي و فصلي ديگر به نشان دادن تمايزهاي ميان تلفظ هاي بريتانيايي، آمريكايي و استراليايي اختصاص داده شده است. بخش دوم كتاب كه به ترتيب حروف الفباي انگليسي تنظيم شده است، تك تك حروف و دونويسه هاي انگليسي را معرفي مي كند و روابط كلي حاكم بر خط و تلفظ را با جزييات كامل توصيف مي نمايد. آنجا كه هجاهاي مختلف واژه نشان دهنده ي فرايندي آواشناختي است يا از اهميت ويژه اي برخوردار است، هجابندي تلفظ با فاصله گذاري مشخص شده است.
