داستان درباره شيري است بيرحم كه هر روز در جنگل تعدادي از حيوانات را شكار مي كرد و مي خورد. روزي حيوانات دور هم جمع شدند تا راه چاره اي بيانديشند. ميمون گفت: "بهتر است خودمان هر روز قرعه كشي كنيم و براي خورده شدن نزد شير برويم." همه موافقت كردند و روزي سه حيوان انتخاب مي شدند. روزي نوبت به خرگوش افتاد و چون نمي خواست كه خورده شود به فكر چاره اي افتاد و به نتيجه رسيد.
