داستان، روز عيد پاك و در مراسن تطهير، شركت كنندگان، ساكت از جاي خود بلند مي شدند، از راهروي كناري، خود را به انتها ي كليسا مي رساندند و سپس با قدم هاي كوتاه و نزديك به هم، از طريق راهروي مركزي بر مي گشتند و به سوي خوانندگان، جلو مي رفتند تا از دست كشيش ريشويي كه عينك نقره اي زده بود، تكه نان متبرك خود را بگيرند... دو زني كه كشيش را همراهي مي كردند، به خاطر اهميت وظيفه شان چهره هايي خشن و جدي داشتند و از آن دسته زن هايي كه نمي شود سن شان را حدس زد.
