"It's a love story whose episodes have been mixed up by a madman." Following a heartbreak, the narrator, a 30-year-old courier, becomes insensitive. He loses his job to find another one, more in keeping with his new status: a hitman. No qualms about aiming for the target, getting away with a perfect crime. Otherwise a new excitement, a thirst to accomplish an almost divine gesture. One day, he is asked to execute a minister and his entire family and to bring back his briefcase. In it, his daughter's diary. Curiosity will get the better of the killer: he reads the notebook. His behavior then becomes erratic and if the use of his five senses returns to him, it is for a metamorphosis that he would never have been able to imagine before. A Nothombian character par excellence, the hero, solitary, misanthropic, detached from all contingent reality, stuck in his own logic, cut off from ordinary perceptions, acting beyond good and evil, discovers precisely that there is a beyond and that it is called love.
