At the beginning of the 19th century, the most extravagant legends were still circulating throughout Brittany. In the evening, in the hollow of farms, people would evoke with fear the apparitions of the Ankou, the worker of death, a skeleton draped in a shroud and carrying a scythe. This terrible image struck the imagination of little Hélène Jégado with incredible violence. Huddled against the icy granite of the menhirs, the child convinced herself that she was the incarnation of this terrifying character. After poisoning her mother, she crisscrossed the region, eliminating all those who happily welcomed this perfect cook. She killed everyone, without discrimination. And she was so good, so compassionate at the bedside of the dying, that no one could suspect for a single moment her monstrous design. By leaving too many traces, she ended up getting caught.
