Ballads and music have been popular among Iranians since ancient times, and it is considered one of the most prominent parts of contemporary Iranian culture. The book Path in Persian songwriting from the beginning to today is a methodical and readable search and understanding of the path of songwriting and songwriters in Iran. In this research, in addition to the general discussion about this issue, songwriting and ballad writing in different periods are separated from each other and the types of songs are classified into twelve sections in terms of content: romantic (with the largest contribution), joy, children's, mourning, work, mystical , religious, customs, political, entertainment, advertising, and sports.

تصنیف و موسیقی از روزگاران باستان در میان ایرانیان رواج داشته است و یکی از برجسته‌ترین بخش‌های شکل‌دهندۀ فرهنگ معاصر ایران نیز محسوب می‌شود. کتاب سیری در ترانه سرایی فارسی از آغاز تا امروز جست‌وجو و شناختی روشمند و خواندنی از سیر ترانه‌سرایی و ترانه‌ سرایان در ایران است. در این پژوهش، علاوه بر بحث عمومی درباره این موضوع، ترانه‌سرایی و تصنیف‌سرایی در ادوار مختلف از همدیگر تفکیک و انواع ترانه از نظر درون‌مایه در دوازده بخش طبقه‌بندی شده است: عاشقانه (با بیشترین سهم)، شادی، کودکانه، سوگ، کار، عرفانی، دینی، آداب و رسوم، سیاسی، سرگرمی، تبلیغاتی، و ورزشی.
