In a hot spring on a desolate mountain, whose surface is covered with snow, the same white dreamland of the wealthy Shimamura meets Komako, a down-to-earth geisha. Shimamura commits himself to Komako without regret, despite knowing that their passion will not last and that this can only have one result. Continuing the process of this doomed romance, Kawabata has created a brilliant story, a stunning novel full of meaning and transcendence in sadness. The white dream realm is full of beautiful, poetic, and pure images, which are depicted with the author's special style. A style that reminds us of haiku. But haiku in Kawabata's own style. The atmosphere of the work is ambiguous and well portrays the doomed relationship of these two lovers.
