Edward Backhouse Eastwick's travelogue was published in London in 1864. Eastwick became Iran's ambassador when the political relations between Iran and England were semi-suspended and unstable since Iran's attack on Herat, and British ministers and chargé d'affaires in Iran were constantly changing.
