سید حسین نصر فیلسوف سنت گرای معاصر، آثار پرتعداد و تأثیرگذاری در دفاع از تاریخ، اندیشه، فرهنگ و موجودیت اسلام و مسلمانان تألیف کرده است. کتاب حاضر که به معرفی شخصیت پیامبر اسلام اختصاص دارد، از آن جمله است. نویسنده در این کتاب می کوشد تصویر دقیقی از سیمای پیامبر اسلام برای انسان معاصر به خصوص برای غربیان و افراد متأثر از فرهنگ غرب ترسیم کند. به همین روی ضمن معرفی سیره و سرگذشت رسول خدا (ص)، شبهاتی را نیز که پیرامون شخصیت آن حضرت مطرح است، به زبانی روشن پاسخ گفته است.
