There is a specific logic in the structure of the present book. At first a historical-anthropological approach had been considered in which the origin and change of cities, and also an outlook toward future are analyzed. Then the author has tried to provide a picture of the former and present theories concerning the city, to find out specific theoretical framework in which urban anthropology does field research.

در ساختار كتاب حاضر منطق مشخصي به كار گرفته شده است. نخست، رويكردي انسان شناختي-تاريخي در نظر بوده است كه در آن منشأ و تحول شهرها از ابتدا تا امروز و چشم اندازي به سوي آينده مورد بررسي قرار گيرد. سپس تلاش شده است تصويري از نظريه هاي پيشين و كنوني درباره ي شهر ارائه شود تا چارچوب نظري مشخصي كه انسان شناسي درون آن به پژوهش ميداني مي پردازد، معلوم شود.
