در اين كتاب، قضاوتهاي اخلاقي كودكان و چگونگي تحول آنها ارزيابي شده است: مفاهيم قاعده، وظيفه، عدالت، گناه، دروغ و كيفر در سنين مختلف چگونه پيدا مي شوند و تحول مي يابند؟ مباني روان شناختي مسئوليت، عدالت ذاتي و مسئوليت جمعي قابل انتقال خاص جوامع بدوي كدامند كه نزد كودكان هم مشاهده مي شوند؟ چگونه و با كدام روش مي توان كودك را با روح مدني و انساني پرورش داد؟ "پياژه" مي گويد: با شناختن اخلاق كودك، به اعتباري اخلاق انسان را شناخته ايم و براي پرورش و تربيت انسان، هيچ چيز مفيدتر از اين نيست كه ياد بگيريم قوانين اين تكوين و تشكل را بشناسيم
