The book My Master is a novel written by Elif Shafak, which was first published in 2013. In this novel, Shafak tells a story about a century of life in the Ottoman Empire. In 1540, a twelve-year-old boy named Jahan arrives in Istanbul. Being the animal tamer of the Sultan, he is put in charge of taking care of a very intelligent elephant named Chota. Jahan also befriends the sultan's beautiful daughter, Princess Mihrimah, and after a while feels that he is in love with her. After some time, Jahan gets to know Sinan, the chief architect of the empire, and with his help, participates in the construction of some of the most magnificent structures in history. But the situation does not go smoothly and feelings of anger and jealousy flare up among Sinan's four students.

کتاب من و استادم، رمانی نوشته ی الیف شافاک است که نخستین بار در سال 2013 به چاپ رسید. شافاک در این رمان، داستانی را روایت می کند که به حدود یک قرن از زندگی در امپراطوری عثمانی می پردازد. در سال 1540، پسری دوازده ساله به نام جهان به استانبول می رسد. او که رام کننده ی حیواناتِ سلطان است، مسئول مراقبت از فیلی بسیار باهوش به نام چوتا می شود. جهان همچنین، با دختر زیبای سلطان، شاهزاده میهریماه، دوست می شود و پس از مدتی احساس می کند که عاشق او شده است. جهان پس از مدتی با سینان، معمار ارشد امپراطوری، آشنا می شود و به کمک او، در ساخت تعدادی از باشکوه ترین سازه های تاریخ مشارکت می کند. اما اوضاع به همین آرامی پیش نمی رود و احساس خشم و حسادت در میان چهار شاگرد سینان شعله ور می گردد.
