He was the author of the court secretary and coach of Mohammadwali Mirza and held the position of adviser during the prince's rule in Khorasan. This work is one of the valuable sources of the first period of Qajar rule, especially the reign of Fath Ali Shah and the events related to the reign of Mohammad Wali Mirza in Khorasan, i.e. the years 1218-1231. Also, Ashraf al-Tawarikh is a useful source for information about the events related to the last survivor of the Afshari dynasty, Nader Mirza, in Khorasan, as well as the conflicts of the Qajar with the emirs of Khorasan, the Turkomans, and the unruly clans and clans of the northern parts of Khorasan during the period of the consolidation of the Qajar state.

مؤلف منشی دربار و مربی محمدولی میرزا بوده و هنگام حکومت شاهزاده در خراسان سمت مشاور داشته است. این اثر از منابع با ارزش دوره نخستین فرمانروایی قاجارها، به ویژه عهد فتحعلی‌شاه و وقایع مربوط به دورة حکومت محمدولی میرزا در خراسان یعنی سال‌های 1218ـ 1231 است. همچنین اشرف‌التواریخ منبع مفیدی برای اطلاع از وقایع مربوط به آخرین بازمانده سلسلة افشاری یعنی نادر میرزا در خراسان و نیز درگیریهای قاجارها با امرای خراسان و ترکمانان و ایلات و طوایف سرکش بخشهای شمالی خراسان در دوره تثبیت دولت قاجار است.
