In other chronicles there is no such breadth and detail; they have taken matters lightly and mentioned no more than a brief portion. But since I have undertaken this work, I intend to give this history its full due and circle around every corner and hidden point, so that nothing of these events remains concealed—though the telling of this book grows long and may weary its readers.
Yet I hope, through their graciousness, that they will not count me among the tedious, for nothing is unworthy of being read; no tale is without some useful point.

در دیگر تواریخ چنین طول و عرضی نیست که احوال را آسان‌تر گرفته‌اند، شمه‌ای بیش یاد نکرده‌اند. اما من چون این کار پیش گرفتم می‌خواهم که داد این تاریخ به تمامی بدهم و گرد زوایا و خبایا برگردم تا هیچ چیز از احوال پوشیده نماند و ذکر این کتاب دراز شودو خوانندگان را از خواندن ملالت افزاید.
طمع دارم به فضل ایشان که مرا از مبرمان نشمارند که هیچ چیز نیست که به خواندن نیرزد که هیچ حکایت از نکته‌ای که به کار آید خالی نباشد.
