The book Golestan Eram by Abbas Qoli Agha Bakikhanov Qudsi has a prominent position among the works written about the history of Azerbaijan. This work covers the history of the people of Shirvan and Dagestan from ancient times to the author's lifetime, i.e. the beginning of the 19th century. A review of the past history of Shirvan and Dagestan shows that these lands have experienced turbulent historical events, have gone through a very complicated growth period, have been the crossing point of various ethnic groups, and have been exposed to various invaders in different periods.

کتاب گلستان ارم اثر عباسقلی آقا باکیخانوف قدسی در بین آثاری که راجع به تاریخ آذربایجان نوشته شده مقام برجسته ای احراز می کند. این اثر تاریخ مردمان شیروان و داغستان را از ادوار باستان تا دوره حیات مولف یعنی اوایل قرن نوزدهم دربر می گیرد. نظری به گذشتۀ تاریخ شیروان و داغستان نشان می دهد که این سرزمین ها حوادث تاریخی پرتلاطمی را از سرگذرانیده، دوران رشد بسیار پیچیده ای را طی کرده، گذرگاه اقوام گوناگونی بوده و در ادوار مختلف در معرض هجوم مهاجمان مختلف قرار گرفته اند.
