Proustian holy grail, the very large format “Soixante-Quinze Feuillets” had become legendary. The only trace that existed was the allusion made to it by Bernard de Fallois, in 1954, in the preface to Contre Sainte-Beuve. In 1962, they had not joined the National Library with the rest of Swann's author's manuscripts. Their reappearance in 2018 following the death of Bernard de Fallois, after more than half a century of futile research, was a bolt from the blue. Because the elusive “Seventy-Quinze Feuillets” of 1908 are an essential piece of the puzzle. Well before Contre Sainte-Beuve, they not only give us the oldest version of In Search of Lost Time. Through the reading keys that the writer seems to have forgotten there, they give access to the primitive Proustian crypt. “A book is a great cemetery where on most of the tombs we can no longer read the erased names,” we read in Le Temps regained; but here, time has not yet erased all the names.

مارسل پروست با نام کامل والنتین لویی ژرژ اوژن مارسل پروست، زاده ی ۱۰ ژوئن ۱۸۷۱، درگذشته ی ۱۸ نوامبر ۱۹۲۲، نویسنده و مقاله نویس فرانسوی است. او به دلیل نگارش اثر عظیمش با عنوان در جستجوی زمان از دست رفته، یکی از بزرگ ترین نویسندگان تاریخ ادبیات قلمداد می شود.در سال ۱۸۹۲ فعالیت های ادبی جدی پروست آغاز شد و او همکاریش را با نشریه ی لو بانکه شروع کرد. در این نشریه ۱۵ مقاله از پروست چاپ شد که بعدها در کتاب خوشی ها و روزها دوباره منتشر شد. در سال ۱۸۹۶ رمان بی اعتنای وی در نشریه ی زندگی معاصر چاپ شد. همچنین ۴ شعر از او که رنالدو آن برای آن ها آهنگ ساخته بود، نیز به چاپ رسید. در ۱۳ ژوئن همان سال، چاپ کتاب خوشی ها و روزهای وی با مقدمه ی آناتول فرانس و تصاویر مادلن لومر منتشر شد.پروست از کودکی بیمار بود و سلامتی شکننده ای داشت. او در سال ۱۸۸۰ برای نخستین بار دچار حمله ی بیماری آسم شد. سرانجام در میانه ی اکتبر سال ۱۹۲۲ به برونشیت دچار شد و روز هجدهم نوامبر جان سپرد. او در گورستان پرلاشز به خاک سپرده شده است. پس از مرگ پروست، در سال ۱۹۲۳، اسیر در دو جلد، در سال ۱۹۲۵، گریخته در دو جلد، در سال ۱۹۲۷، زمان بازیافته در دو جلد، در سال ۱۹۵۲، رمان ژان سنتوی در دو جلد و در سال ۱۹۵۴ اثر ناتمام ضد سنت بوو به چاپ رسید.
