داستان حکایت از دلتنگی های دختر کوچکی دارد که آرزویش پرواز کردن است. پرواز کردن مانند پرندگان و همیشه از پشت پنجره با حسرت به آنها نگاه می کند و مادر در پاسخ می گوید تو هم روزی می توانی پرواز کنی.
زمان می گذرد و دختر کوچک قصه به مدرسه می رود و در آنجا کتابهایی به او می دهند، وقتی به خانه برمی گردد مادر که او را با کتابهایش می بیند به او می گوید:
دید گفتم تو هم می توانی پرواز کنی!
نازنین کوچولوی قصه می گوید: چه طور مادر؟
مادر می گوید: با همین کتابها، با خواندن کتاب خیلی چیزها یادمیگیری. انگار که به خیلی جاها رفته ای و خیلی از آدمها را دیده ای، کتابها بالهای تو هستند و می توانی با آنها پرواز کنی.
همانطور که مشخص است، داستان سعی دارد کودک را با جایگاه و ارزش کتاب و کتابخوانی آشنا سازد.
