Not only the way people speak and think about "development", but also the rules of this speaking and thinking have changed with the passage of time. Development Discourse and Global History uses Michel Foucault's methods of paleontology and genealogy to trace the roots of the development discourse to late colonialism and reveal important discontinuities and discontinuities that have led to the establishment of a new discourse and its associated industry. This book continues with a discussion of the conflicts of those self-constructions and developments of the concept of development. The book shows that some trends in the development discourse that emerged after the crisis of the 1980s emphasize the participation and ownership of sustainable development and the free market with rules. The beginnings of the development discourse are inconsistent and therefore have led to serious contradictions. Now, the Eurocentric elements of authoritarianism and depoliticization have been exposed in the development discourse, but this discourse still values progressive self-improvement. The author ends the book by analyzing the old and new features of the development discourse in the discussion about sustainable development goals and discussing the importance and role of discourse analysis in development studies.
