The purpose of the Qur'an in telling the story of past peoples was not to express history in the sense that it is history, but on the contrary, the Qur'an in its stories has left the elements of time and place that make up history ambiguous. From here, it became clear to me that the commentators, by dealing with the mentioned elements that were not primarily considered by the Quran, completely turned the issue upside down and neglected the true purposes of the Quranic story. If they had turned their minds to these righteous goals, they would have freed themselves from great trouble and would have revealed the religious and social aspects of the Qur'anic story in such a way that it would arouse thoughts and feelings and captivate minds and hearts. In this way, they made the religion and its teachings firm and strong, and they took steps in the direction of the guidance of the Qur'an.

مقصود قرآن از حکایت ماجرای اقوام گذشته بیان تاریخ از آن حیث که تاریخ است نبوده، بلکه برعکس، قرآن در قصه‌های خود عناصر زمان و مکان را که سازنده‌ی تاریخ‌اند مبهم گذاشته است. از این‌جا بر من روشن شد که مفسران با پرداختن به عناصر مذکور که اساساً مورد توجه قرآن نبوده، کاملاً مسئله را وارونه کرده و از مقاصد حقیقی قصه‌ی قرآنی غفلت ورزیده‌اند. اگر آنان ذهن خود را به این مقاصد حق معطوف می‌کردند، خویشتن را از دردسر بزرگی رها ساخته و جنبه‌های دینی و اجتماعی داستان قرآنی را آن‌چنان که افکار و احساسات را برانگیزد و عقل‌ها و دل‌ها را مجذوب خود سازد، آشکار می‌کردند. به این ترتیب دین و آموزه‌های آن را استوار و محکم می‌ساختند و در مسیر هدایت قرآن گام برمی‌داشتند.
