کتاب « عقلانیت نهادی» نخستین کتابی است که به زبان پارسی به صورت خاص، متمرکز، ژرف‌نگرانه و همه‌جانبه و با بیانی ساده به مفهوم « عقلانیت اقتصادی». وجوه مختلف، ویژگی‌ها و کارکردهای آن می‌پردازد و همچنین چگونگی اثرگذاری نهادها بر تصمیم‌ها و رفتارهای انسان را از دیدگاه اقتصاد نهادی بررسی می‌کند. در این کتاب نشان داده می‌شود که اصل بنیادی عقلانیت عاملان، که اساس تمام مدل‌ها و نظریه‌های اقتصادی است، چه کاستی‌ها و نقاط قوتی دارد که دهه‌های اخیر محل مناقشه میان مکاتب مختلف علم اقتصاد و همچنین سایر حوزه‌های علوم اجتماعی بوده است و بسیاری از متفکران سعی بر ارائه مفهوم جدیدی از عقلانیت داشته‌اند.
