The years 260-329/874-941, known among the Shî‘ites as the period of Minor Occultation, comprised undoubtedly the most difficult and critical period in the history of Imâmite Shî'ism. The death of the eleventh Imam, with no apparent successor, resulted in internal conflicts, many desertions and conversions, and the emergence of numerous splinter groups and subsects within the Imâmite community. Contemporary Imâmite theologians had the difficult task of defending the doctrine against attack while trying to offer new interpretations of fundamental principles to accommodate contemporary developments. Abu Jafar b. Qiba al-Razi, one of the most prominent and active Imâmite theologians, had a major role in all of these reconstructions and developments. The present work attempts to shed light on some aspects of the Imâmite doctrine during the Minor Occultation and on the contributions of Abu Jafar b. Qiba to the formation of the developed Imâmite doctrine. The second part of this volume contains the texts of three short works of this scholar, together with their English translation.

سال‌های 260-329/874-941 که در میان شیعیان به دوران غیبت صغری معروف است، بی‌تردید سخت‌ترین و حساس‌ترین دوران در تاریخ تشیع امامیه را تشکیل می‌دهد. رحلت امام یازدهم، بدون جانشینی ظاهری، منجر به درگیری‌های داخلی، فرار از خدمت و تغییر دین و ظهور گروه‌ها و فرعی‌های متعدد در جامعه امامیه شد. متکلمان امامی معاصر وظیفه دشواری داشتند که از این تز در برابر حمله دفاع کنند و در عین حال سعی در ارائه تفاسیر جدیدی از اصول اساسی برای تطبیق با تحولات معاصر داشتند. ابوجعفر بن. قبله رازی، یکی از برجسته ترین و فعال ترین متکلمان امامیه، در همه این بازسازی ها و تحولات نقش عمده ای داشت. در این اثر سعی شده است تا بر برخی از جنبه‌های عقیده امامیه در دوران غیبت صغری و مشارکت‌های ابوجعفر بن ابی‌ها روشن شود. قبله به شکل گیری دکترین توسعه یافته امامیه. قسمت دوم این جلد شامل متون سه اثر کوتاه این محقق به همراه ترجمه انگلیسی آنهاست. حسین مدرسی استاد مطالعات خاور نزدیک در دانشگاه پرینستون است. مهدی محقق ارشد مطالعات شیعه در موسسه خاورمیانه، دانشکده روابط بین‌الملل و عمومی، دانشگاه کلمبیا. و همکار گلستانه در مطالعات اسلامی در کالج سنت آنتونی، آکسفورد، انگلستان است.
