"Memoirs of a Nun" is an important novel that has a high place in Diderot's intellectual life and his reflections on man. A nun can be considered a full-view mirror of the "psychosis" of a human being who was raised in the deadly environment of the monastery. All those pitiable creatures portrayed by Diderot have succumbed to their bodies, indulgences, instincts, and rebellion against their will. The purity of each of their hearts has been destroyed and their souls have succumbed to their desires, nightmares, and intellectual temptation. Once again, it can be said that this novel by Diderot is a telling image of the alienation of man and body, and the central feature of the work is the human being deprived of individual freedom.

راهبه رمانی مهم است که در حیات فکری دیدرو و تأملاتش دربارۀ انسان، جایگاه رفیعی دارد. راهبه می‌تواند آینۀ تمام‌نمای ”روان‌پریشی“ فردِ انسانی قلمداد شود که در محیط مرگ‌بار صومعه پرورده شده است. آن‌همه مخلوقِ درخور ترحمی که دیدرو به تصویر کشیده به‌رغم میلشان تسلیم بدن، زیاده‌خواهی، غرایز و عصیان خود شده‌اند. خلوص قلب تک‌تک آنان تباه شده و روحشان تسلیم امیال و هوس‌ها، کابوس‌ها و وسوسۀ فکری شده است. باری، می‌توان گفت که این رمان دیدرو، تصویر گویای چگونگی ازخودبیگانگی انسان و بدن است و ویژگی محوری اثر، انسانِ محروم از آزادی فردی است.
