Marriage, as one of the most important decisions and choices (before it) and situations (after it), is worthy of philosophical analysis and reflection. In some countries, marriage, along with divorce and children, which are also related to marriage, is the only event in a person’s life that is recorded in his or her identity card between birth and death. This phenomenon can and has been explored from various historical, sociological, psychological, biological, geographical, and political perspectives. This book, however, analyzes marriage from a philosophical perspective. The first part is a review of the opinions of some of the most important philosophers who have thought about marriage and related categories. The second part is a serious written debate between two contemporary philosophical thinkers on marriage. In three articles, these two have made marriage an arena for philosophical contradictions and conclusions. First, Don Muller presents an argument against marriage, and then Ido Landau, in addition to refuting Muller's argument, presents a defense of marriage, and finally Muller responds to him. In the third section (Suspensions), first a description of both arguments and aspects and premises of the Muller-Landau debate is presented, and the more important and hidden points of this debate are expressed in simple language. Next, the author discusses philosophical issues and issues about marriage so that the reader can become familiar with more philosophical angles on this subject.
