The present book is a documentary account of the decline of the authority and power of the middle classes in the urban society of Iran. A transformation that started in the late 1990s but accelerated in the early 1990s until it became a structural phenomenon in the country's urban society, especially in the capital city. The difference between the research presented in this book and other researches that have dealt with the same issue, i.e. the decline of the power of the middle classes and being dominated by them, is that the author has made a serious effort to talk to the people who experienced this event. have experienced, to get a narrative of its impact on various dimensions of their existence.

کتاب حاضر روایت مستندی است از اُفت اقتدار و قدرت اقشار میانی در جامعة شهرنشین ایران. دگردیسی‌ای که هر چند از اواخر دهة ۱۳۶۰ آغاز گشت اما از اوایل دهة ۱۳۹۰ شتاب گرفت تا به پدیده‌ای ساختاری در جامعة شهرنشین کشور به ویژه در پایتخت تبدیل شد. وجه تمایز تحقیقی که در این کتاب تقویم شده‌است با سایر تحقیقاتی که به همین موضوع، یعنی از کف رفتنِ قدرت اقشار میانی و تحت سلطه قرارگرفتنِ آنان پرداخته‌اند در آن است که نویسنده سعی و تلاشی جدی به‌کار برده‌است تا از طریق گفت‌و‌گو با افرادی که این واقعه را تجربه کرده‌اند، روایتی یکهّ از تأثیر آن بر ابعاد گوناگون هستی‌شان به‌دست دهد.
