The publication ... isms, how to understand modern and contemporary art cannot be an exhaustive summary, but it represents a very good guide to the isms (eg Fauvism, Expressionism, Rayonism, Precisionism, Fluxus, Multiculturalism) and their main representatives.
The chronology is not binding, as the beginnings and ends of individual isms are still open to interpretation. Sometimes a larger range of different types of art was born at the same time, especially in the sixties of the 20th century, and for example impressionism or other older isms are still applied in artistic practice today. However, this publication focuses on key periods when individual isms were most productive and influential.
