Nelson Goodman is one of the figures of analytical philosophy and philosophy of science in America. In this book, he raised the traditional issue of induction in a completely new way. He believes that induction should be explained in a way that is as unambiguous as possible. In order to reach this goal, after explaining the counterfactual conditionals, the passage of time from possibility, he examines the new mystery of induction and then presents a perspective of the theory of "diffusion" to his audience.

نلسون گودمن از چهره های فلسفه تحلیلی و فلسفه علم در آمریکا است. او درکتاب حاضر مسأله سنتی استقراء را به شیوهای کاملا جدید مطرح کرده است. او معتقد است استقراء را باید به گونه ای تبیین کنیم که تا حد امکان بدون ابهام باشد. در راستای وصول به این مقصود پس از توضیح شرطی های خلاف واقع، گذر زمان از امکان، معمای جدید استقراء را بررسی کرده و سپس چشم اندازی از نظریه «تسرّی» را به مخاطب خود ارائه می نماید.
